Description

Amharic app makes learning the language so easy and fun.

Long the sole official language of Ethiopia, the Amharic language has recently been joined by a handful others to be designated as one of the working languages of the country.

Amharic is spoken by a large part of the country population and its diaspora either as a first language or as a second. It is one of the most widely spoken Semitic languages in the world.

You may then go on to build your Amharic word power one by one, by navigating through categories or by searching for their English equivalents in the vocabulary section.

While you are in the Vocabulary section, you can learn how to communicate with common phrases such as ‘Thank You’, ‘Hello’, ‘Goodbye’ and much more.

In the likely case that you are interested in the sounds of the words and characters of the Amharic language you can hear how they sound as recorded by a native speaker. Just tap on a letter. in the Alphabet section. Or a numeral in the Numbers section. Or on the audio button next to the pronunciation guide to a word or phrase in the Vocabulary section.

Decent Amharic Resource

This is a decent app that has been getting pretty regular updates through the years. Far from a language course, it serves as a study tool that you can use during those "hidden moments" throughout the day.

Considering the lack of decent Amharic learning resources out there, I am tempted to give this app 5 stars. However, I definitely see room for improvement and will leave that last star when I feel it's truly been earned.

Great job though and thanks for helping others learn this difficult language.

Great but

I really like this app. It is one of the few apps to learn amharic.
I would suggest three things:1) Allow for sound per "letter"without having to narrow down to the group. 2) Have in the settings to allow users to choose if they want the English letters to help with the pronunciation ( i am trying to learn to read Amharic but having the english letters always makes me cheat, it is almost impoosible not to look at the English letters) 3) Add a quiz feature for the alphabet and words

Besides these suggestions I think this is the best app to learn amharic

Decent but missing components

The app has decent features but the selling features (puzzle and flash card) are missing. I probably wouldn’t have paid $5.99 if I knew that was the case

Developer Response ,

Dear Amhariclearner,

If you would allow us a belated response, you might be pleased to know that those features are hiding in plain sight!

The Letter puzzle is available when you are studying the letters. Tap on the right arrow > when you are in the Alphabet screen.

Once you are in the letter view, proceed to tap on the action button on the top right of the screen. Voila! You find the letter puzzle.

The flash cards are available in the Vocabulary section. Once you are there, tap on the upward action arrow, and, Voila! the flash cards are at your service.

Do feel free to explore these and other feature and drop us a line if you have questions, comments or suggestions.
