Description

Taking introductory physics or need a quick physics reference? Then you need the Wolfram Physics I Course Assistant. This app will help you work through your homework problems, ace your tests, and learn physics concepts. Forget canned examples! The Wolfram Physics I Course Assistant solves your specific physics problems on the fly.

This app covers the following topics from Physics I:

- Solve linear and rotational kinematic equations
- Calculate forces of gravity, friction, and springs
- Calculate motion of rockets, pendulums, collisions, and more
- Perform calculations involving mass, weight, density, energy, work, and power
- Do unit conversions
- Look up laws of physics and common physics constants

The Wolfram Physics I Course Assistant is powered by the Wolfram|Alpha computational knowledge engine and is created by Wolfram Research, makers of Mathematica—the world's leading software system for mathematical research and education.

The Wolfram Physics I Course Assistant draws on the computational power of Wolfram|Alpha's supercomputers over a 3G, 4G, or Wi-Fi connection.

Had They an iPad, The Big Three Would Have Invented This App

Galileo Galilei, Isaac Newton and Johannes Kepler would have loved to had something like this for their physics classes. Math and physics should be enjoyable. This app helps to stay on that circuitous path.

Missing IPad-like interactions

There are some great things here, especially if you want to check your work on problems for the targeted physics class. Much of this would be the same on a good graphing calculator with a bit of programming. The app does not really use the cool space of the iPad, so it sort of misses an opportunity. The picture shows the force diagram of a block on an inclined plane, as if you might be able to manipulate something using touches and gestures to interactively set up problems and then see their solutions. No such luck. It's almost like a pared-down version of the regular wolfram alpha app, which can be useful, just not as exciting as I expected.

Physics I: good screenshots, but won't load into iPhone

Physics II works fine on my iPhone 3G (waiting for the maybe soon iPhone 5), but Physics I will not sync into the phone, even though it appears in the app view of the sync window for the phone. After syncing, restarting, and resyncing several times, I tried the "support site", which will let me hire a speaker to speak to my company about the quality of Wolfram products and support, but the site does not allow actually asking questions. Reminds me of Microsoft Word 3, which MS put out without beta testing. I tend not to buy anything from companies that don't respect customers enough to test their products. Are you listening now, Wolfram?
