Snapchat is a great way to communicate!! You can get streaks with people, which is basically just when you and someone else sends photos to each other and talk a lot! Also! You can add people who are in your contacts, which makes it a lot easier to find them. You can ALSOO post on your story, but! It’s only public to your friends! I think this is great because you don’t want the whole world to see you. As well as private stories, which are the same thing, but instead of all of your friends seeing it, the ones you choose that you want to see this private story can see. So maybe like all your friends can see what you post on your story, but on a private story, only your siblings or your bffs, etc. It’s just such a fun way to socialize! You can also make group chats!! And you can customize peoples names. If you don’t have them on your contacts either, that’s fine! Just search up their name 💗 you can also watch funny try not to laughs on snap, dhar Mann, (educational videos), and beauty hacks. It’s not like TikTok if you are a parent and are worried about that. You can’t comment on stuff. You can only like and share. I think that’s a good thing because comments can be disturbing and or offensive or harmful, etc. Snapchat also has a HUGE variety of fun filters, which can be used while taking photos or videos! Overall: I really think that Snapchat is amazing. It’s definitely underrated sometimes. I hope you enjoy Snapchat!!
The Ensh**tification of Snapchat
Snapchat used to be a handy, fun messaging system to keep up with your friends. Now, the push for an ever-increasing market cap has resulted in the addition of many disgusting new features. For example, if I want to send a snap to someone, about 20% of the time, one of the filters automatically applies to the photo. I do not want to use filters, almost ever, but the app automatically navigates to that menu. Often, when I try to navigate to my friends list, the next button over which leads to the sponsored filters is magically activated despite my not pressing it. More recently, Snapchat premium opt-in appears at the top of my friends list every time I open the app, and when I hit the x to get rid of that or the “try snapchat on your computer”, it mysteriously pulls up the menu and tries to force me to read it anyway instead of dismissing. And now, for the cherry on top, a chatbot that appears without asking, does not have the option to opt out, is obviously there to harvest user data - I say this because it is in fact disclosed explicitly - and is permanently at the top of your friends list. Disgusting. I’m not even asking for full interface customization. All I want is to only have the actions I take occur and be allowed to opt out of features I do not want.
