Description

Landmarks puts the hidden history behind over 850 New York City buildings at your fingertips. Download and use on iPhone and iPad, and now also available on Mac.

Locate buildings nearby and across the City. Explore the Google Street View and a summary of the building's history from the official NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission report. Discover new buildings of any style by filtering for building types like firehouses, libraries, theaters, religious structures and more.

Since 1965, the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission has been designating the historical and architectural best of New York City's buildings. Landmarks unlocks the history buried in all of these official Manhattan architectural designation reports, including buildings you know -- like the Brooklyn Bridge, Empire State Building, Flatiron Building, and the Statue of Liberty -- plus hundreds more dating as far back as the 1700's.

Stellar A+

If you are even remotely interested in NYC architecture, or history in general, this app is a must-have.

Fluid user interface, excellent mini articles written about each building, complete with links to the official Landmark documents, and Google-linked up-to-date street-view adjustable images.

Hundreds of NYC landmarks, and hundreds of stories!

Fun app, a bit dated though

This is a neat app if you’re one of those people who walk around NYC and wonder about the history of the various buildings you see. Map function hones in on where you are, building photos make it easy to identify buildings.
However, the info and narratives are a bit dated. In some cases I’ve found facts that are not accurate and have not been for over a decade.

Great, Simple

Great landmarks app, supports iPhone and iPad both well.

Feature requests: Wikipedia links, and a way to “check off” already-visited landmarks.
