SpeakBeat

I’ve tried multiple app-based metronomes and this is by far the best one. It’s so much easier to hear someone counting since this is what you do when playing music - you count. You don’t (usually) think or say a weird tone as you play! This app counts the beats and unlike other similar apps, it speaks in a normal human voice (and there are multiple different options for the type of voice) and not a creepy robot voice. It can also count in various subdivisions which is really unique and helpful. The free version works perfectly but it’s well worth $1.99 to remove the ads. My one request would be that the app work in landscape mode since I have to keep my iPad plugged in while playing so landscape mode is much more convenient.

UPDATE: the developer added landscape mode!

Developer Response ,

Landscape mode is now supported!

WHERE has this been all my life??!😍

I just found out about this app a few weeks ago, and it’s life changing. Growing up with a brother who’s a drummer, I conditioned myself to tune him out while we practiced different music at the same time— him on the drums and myself on the piano. As a result, I tuned out the metronome as well.

As both a pianist and now also a piano teacher, I’m so excited about this app! Upon running across a mention if it in a blog post, (and so many times since then!), my thought was/is, “where have you been all my life?!” Complete with the heart eyes:) 😍😍

I’m truly so grateful for what you’ve done. You all are clearly amazing.
So please take this as a compliment, because it’s a reflection on how much of a genius one of my students and I think you are… We would love to see some way to add polyrhythms on SpeakBeat.

(I tried to email this as feedback but it said my device wasn’t supported for that..?)

Developer Response ,

Thanks so much for the compliments! The idea for the app actually came from a music teacher that we worked with many years ago. We spent many years trying to make the app as easy to use for teachers and students. We have looked at polyrhythms in the past. It might be added at some point, but not in the short term.

I have been a musician for at least 50 years and taught music as well. I have had metronomes, drum machines and drummers. If you’ve ever had a drummer that didn’t know the song and just played a beat. This is a lifesaver. This app Speak Beat and Capo are now my band mates. I’ve been in bands, built guitars and been in music my whole life. This is a great app. I hope they continue their good work.

Developer Response ,

We're very pleased an experienced musician such as yourself finds value in our app. Thank you for taking your time to leave a review!
